How long have you been with Givens Gerber Park: 
Since October 2020.

What attracted you to working at Givens Gerber Park?
I had previously worked as a case manager, setting up in home services for elders in the Cape Cod community. I have a passion for working with the older adult population and wanted to continue on this path. I was eager to work at Givens Gerber Park so I could make a difference in people’s lives every day. It’s important to me have a purpose in the work I do and I knew I could find a purpose serving the Givens Gerber Park residents. Another exciting part of Givens Gerber Park was the supportive services team approach that we have here. Our structure of having two Resident Service Coordinators, a Community Nurse, an Engagement Coordinator, and Clinic sets us up to support our residents in a variety of different ways and allows them to connect with services but also maintain their independence.

What are a few of your primary responsibilities?
A few of my primary responsibilities are connecting residents with outside home health services, providing assistance with programs such as SNAP, LIEAP, SHIIP, and other services. I am the staff liaison for both Resident Council and Garden Committee. I place MANNA food bank orders and organize our twice a month market for all residents. I also work with residents who are experiencing health concerns and connect them to the help they need as well as working with discharge planners at the hospital for a smooth transition back home. I coordinate educational guest speakers on topics related to end of life planning, legal advice, mental health/counseling services etc. I can assist residents with financial advocacy and understanding monthly bills. If I am personally not able to assist I will work with the resident to find a service or someone in the community who can.

How is your job rewarding?
My job as a service coordinator is rewarding because not only do I get to form meaningful relationships with our residents but I am able to assist and help them with obstacles they face as they age. Just knowing that sometimes the small things I do can completely turn someone’s day around will always put a smile of my face. I feel very fortunate to be in this position and continue to learn and help our residents every day.

What is a fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me is that I was the Class President in high school as well as the junior and senior yearbook editor ! I went to high school in Massachusetts on Cape Cod.

Our team here at Givens Gerber Park are very caring individuals who work with residents to allow them to live in a safe and enjoyable environment. I truly believe that the power of actively listening and engaging with residents goes a long way. We try to support them in a variety of different ways so they are able to stay healthy, educated, and happy at Givens Gerber Park.
